The Paris Catacombs, home to the remains of over six million citizens, served as the unique setting for Queens of the Stone Age’s performance film “Alive In The Catacombs.”
The band’s frontman, Josh Homme, emphasized the importance of respecting the catacombs’ history and atmosphere by creating a contemplative and acoustic performance that honored the space and its inhabitants.
The filming process involved innovative techniques such as real-time superimposition effects and a deliberate focus on the catacombs as the true star of the film.
Despite facing health issues related to his previous cancer battle, Homme was determined to proceed with the catacombs performance, viewing the experience as a romantic risk that added intensity and authenticity to the recording.
The project has inspired the band to consider reimagining their live shows and exploring new creative directions, hinting at the possibility of a tour featuring reimagined songs and teasing potential new music with the lyrics “insignificant other.”
