Valerie Bertinelli is recalling a moment during a Saturday Night Live rehearsal where Phil Hartman corrected her for not using his character’s name in a sketch.
The sketch, “Dinner at the Van Halens,” featured Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen hosting a dinner party with Hartman and Victoria Jackson as guests.
Bertinelli remembers Hartman reprimanding her for not using his character’s name, emphasizing his commitment to the skit.
She said, “I remember him just reprimanding me. I don’t know why that sticks out. He was digging deep for that particular skit.”
The sketch also included Van Halen’s roadies, played by Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey, and Dennis Miller, causing chaos during the dinner party.
Bertinelli says she now struggles to watch her SNL monologue, expressing discomfort with seeing herself on screen.
